Machine-tool stocks ratcheted upward.

Toilet-paper companies wiped away earlier losses.

Boeing stock soared and Lockheed really took off.

A swimming-pool company floated a loan, and its IPO is going swimmingly.

But boat-building stocks were sinking fast.

Stock in 7-Up is flat.

Sun is expected to rise during morning trading.

EverReady stock was weak, but Duracell stock charged ahead.

Stock in several NFL franchises fumbled - many shareholders opted to punt.

Bell Helicopter hovered around its highs.

Real-estate investment trusts lost ground.

Pest-control companies got killed.

Victoria's Secret asset values were stripped.

But panty-hose companies found support.

Gillette stock had a close shave but finished up, a hair above yesterday's high.

Earnings report: Clairol came out a little dark, but it shouldn't be permanent.

And Sylvania looked bright in light trading.
